On  a ProcessBook trend, we would like to have a value trended with the running current value overlayed with the value 24 hours prior.  Is there a way to do this?

PIBackup.bat not working in Program Files (x86) 64-bit 2008 R2 environment

$

Hello,

When I am running pibackup.bat in order to create a backup of the historian, I get an error message.

When searching through the .bat file, I found out this is because the PIServer environment variable is in the "Program Files (x86)" folder.

::   Backup procedure for PI 3.4
::   $Revision: 44 $

(part of pibackup.bat)

if not defined PIServer (

@echo Assuming the \pi\adm path is the current directory...

   set AdmPath=%CD%

) else (

@echo The PIServer variable is set to %PIServer%

)

As explained here:

http://marsbox.com/blog/howtos/batch-file-programfiles-x86-parenthesis-anomaly/

Is this because I am not using the latest version of pibackup.bat?

I am not comfortable in editing the entire batch file myself...

Thanks a lot for any comments or help,

Best Regards,

Joris

Videos for PI RDBMS posted!

OSIsoft Learning just finished a set of videos on the PI Interface for Relational Database (RDBMS via ODBC)!   This is one of OSIsoft's most common interfaces out there, so I'm sure there are users that would like to see a step-by-step of how to step it up.  We've included time-stamps in the youtube video description to assist navigating the videos.

The videos show every step of:

  • Installing PI RDBMS
  • Connecting to the data source
  • writing SQL SELECT statements
  • building PI RDBMS Tags
  • choosing query options
  • and more

Summing up total time within specific date

Hey guys,

I'm quite new to this PI environment. I was given an Excel file containing a macro that links to PI. I was told it works fine but not until last 3/4 years when they upgraded the company's computer OS or something. I have some basic knowledge in programming so I may be able to understand some if not all.

Basically the script is just to calculate the running hours of a specific equipment within a specified date. Running is 1, Stop is 0. So I just need to sum up the time difference between two 1s within a specific date.

I tried running the script and it worked fine without any errors, but it seems like Excel is not capturing the data from PI. Can anyone take a look and show me where to go from here?

Thank you.

Adding states to multi state object with vba

I am trying to write vba code to modify existing multi-state objects in ProcessBook displays.

In the object browser I see I can get a state definition object from a multi-state object using the GetState method but I do not see a way to add a new state to an existing multi-state object. Is this possible?

Thanks

Commentary from RSA Conference 2013

At over 20,000 attendees, RSA USA is arguably the largest annual gathering of folks in the cyber security industry.

Like last year, I grazed on the periphery of RSA. Other OSIer’s had full conference access. The B-Sides SF event continues to provide the most bang for the buck ($20 instead of $2000 registration). Likewise the California PUC thought leadership series event on cyber security was free. Both of the former were tight knit and provide good interaction. The RSA Expo was extremely busy but complimentary passes make it a bargain too – these include access to many of the keynote presentations.

Rhetoric and hype are consistently in excess at RSA and rose to new found levels this year. The recent State of the Union Executive Order announcement with a presidential directive on critical infrastructure resilience probably would have been enough to keep the spin room busy. But it was Mandiant’s carefully timed APT1 report that seemed to whip the conference into a state of frenzy.

Suddenly, critical infrastructure protection is ‘cool’ for mainstream cyber security pros. This buzz almost stole the show from the conference theme related to big data security.

The Mandiant booth was packed. APT1 fact sheets were very well done, with one case illustrating the details of espionage attacks on the energy sector. In short this is spooky stuff. The problem with creating so much fear is it can be paralyzing. OMG, everyone is getting hacked, these guys are unstoppable – why try?

In one form or another I heard this concept play out over and over. Top experts are struggling to answer the question: “Are we more secure than we were 10 years ago?” Several of these security leaders are calling #FAIL on themselves and the whole security industry.

Cisco’s John Stewart seemed to handle the question better than most. After suggesting the question is rigged for good debate he offers sobering advice: a sure way to get hacked is to do nothing on cyber security.

This gets me to the main topic of this post. If you are wondering what to do relative to PI System security, your plans should include updates as a priority. PI Server 2012 provides significant security benefits. Also we continue to recommend Windows Server Core as the most secure operating system platform for PI System servers.

Finally, if you find yourself paralyzed by all the hype please contact us.  We do offer security advice for the PI System.  Let’s have a conversation about PI System security.  Or come join your peers at the OSIsoft Users Conference security workshop and training. I’ll see you there!

Hi Processbook specialists :)

Can anyone help me with a quick guide in making a lookup in Excel 2010 from Processbook PI-tag?

I have a TAG there shows my Productnumber. In Processbook I wan't to show what the produktname is.

In excel I have 2 colums:

Column 1: productnumbers

Column 2: productnames

Now I want to show in Processbook the Productname from Excel what I am producing.

In Processbook it will look like this:

Productnumber: 321222221 (This is from the TAG I have)

Productname: JohnDOE (This is a lookup in Excel from the productnumber TAG)

Hope anyone can help me with a good solution :)

Hello,

I need some help figuring this out:

I have made a animated picture in PI Processbook and it works properly in runtime.

But when I use this file in PI Web Parts - PI Graphic it isn't able to utdate the multistate symbols, the value it just set to 0.

Regular values works in Web Parts.

Any idea why this doesn't work?

How to store labo measurements with limited validity in time?

$

I have an Excel spreadsheet to put lab measurements in the PI database.
I use VBA (the PiPutVal function) in combination with the manual interface.

Many lab measurements are only measured once a week, while the validity of the measurement is one day.

The value of PI remains unchanged, until a new value is entered, in the above example is therefore six days a non relevant value.

In the process book is not to see if the value is, or is not, relevant.

I would like to have “x” minutes after the time that a particular lab value is saved, a status in the PI tag like “No data”.

Do you know a way I can fix this?

Datalink Performance Equation Guide

Are there any reference tools or examples on using performance equations within Datalink?  Specifically, I was curious about the Instr function.  We have some digital tags that have different variations of “STOP” (stopped, stopped/in_field, stop/in_field, etc.).  Instead of building a filter with each potential variant, I am trying to use the Instr function to see if the tag value contains “STOP” in the result.  I am not getting the syntax correct and am receiving the invalid expression syntax error. Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thanks.

Communication between the PI and Sharepoint

Hi everybody,

I'm working in a solution of a sharepoint platform system communicating with a PI database.

I've heard that this communication with a PI database haven't a good performance.

How long a query takes to return a result in this case? Use a Spatial ETL would improve this time?

Which other option i have without giving up the platform sharepoint?

Thank you.

PI Calculation or not?

Hello all,

First time posting, been looking around the forums for a good bit. Lot of information here. Glad OSIsoft has a great support community.

I started picking up PI ProcessBook here at work as its a powerful tool that almost no one in my department uses. I have been slowly compiling my own book together and can manipulate most of what I need however, I've come to a dead end, and haven't found an answer in the training videos yet.

I have equipment with estimated down times as a tag listed all on one page. I'd like to create a calculation/value on that same display that shows how many more will come down during a 12 hour shift (7am-7pm, 7pm-7am). I am not sure how to go about this... I was hoping for a prod in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!
